Help shape the city budget for 2025-2026 in Renton

The City of Renton’s Finance Department has begun building the biennial budget for 2025 and 2026. As part of this process, the city is conducting a community-wide budget survey with the help of independent researchers. Through this process, the city will gain insights and feedback from residents on the direction and spending plan of the city for the upcoming two years. Thus far, many households have been directly contacted through mailed postcards, text messages, and emails with a link and unique ID to complete the survey.

In the online survey, participants can share their opinions on a variety of topics, including:

  • Priority outcomes for the city budget
  • Importance and satisfaction ratings for city facilities
  • Transportation and safety initiatives
  • Overall perception of life in Renton

Input from community members is critical to understanding the current state of the city and future needs.

Please consider participating in this important civic process. If your household was not directly contacted, the survey will be available for the public starting June 12 at rentonwa.gov/budget.

Stay in the know on House Bill 1110/Middle Housing

In 2023, the Washington State Legislature passed House Bill 1110 (HB 1110) to promote the development of “middle housing” in areas traditionally dedicated to single-family detached dwellings. Middle housing refers to housing types that are similar in size, shape, and style to single-family development. These housing types contain two or more homes that are attached, stacked, or clustered together. Examples of middle housing include duplexes, triplexes, fourplexes, fiveplexes, sixplexes, townhouses, stacked flats, courtyard apartments, and cottage housing. Along with middle housing, single-family detached homes will continue to be allowed.

The City of Renton’s Community and Economic Development Department aims to provide various opportunities for the public to learn about HB 1110 through community events such as the Renton Community Celebrations and Renton Farmers Market. The department recently held a virtual open house on June 1. Be sure to check the project webpage for a video recording and related project documents.
The City of Renton must update its residential development regulations to comply with HB 1110 by June 30, 2025.
