CES 2.0 Plan

City of Renton Clean Economy Strategy 2.0 Plan opens for public comment

Community stakeholders can share thoughts and feedback on Renton’s proactive plan to address climate change

RENTON, WA (September 20, 2023) –  The City of Renton has completed the latest update to its climate action and mitigation plan, Clean Economy Strategy 2.0 (CES 2.0). The draft plan is ready for comments and feedback from Renton residents, business owners, and other community stakeholders. CES 2.0 is the city’s first update to its initial climate action and mitigation plan adopted in 2011.

Implementing CES 2.0 will support local green job creation, public health benefits, safer walking and biking routes, more accessible transit, long-term energy cost savings, a more resilient grid, and more robust emergency management systems.

This version of CES 2.0 builds on the original plan using input from the Renton community and all city departments. The plan will serve as a roadmap to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, enhance environmental sustainability, and prepare for a changing climate. Uniquely tailored to Renton’s needs, CES 2.0 reflects the latest scientific evidence, incorporates recommendations from dozens of peer cities, and reflects community input.

The city will implement a number of actions to achieve Renton’s goals of mitigating greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate change impacts, while providing co-benefits to Renton’s community. These actions will be grouped in five focus areas:

  • Transportation and Land Use
  • Buildings and Energy
  • Consumption and Materials Management
  • Community Resilience and Wellbeing
  • Water and Natural Systems

Implementing the strategies and actions within the CES 2.0 will support the creation of local green jobs, public health benefits, safer walking and biking routes, more accessible transit, long-term energy cost savings, a more resilient grid, and more robust emergency management systems.

The draft plan is uploaded and available for review online. The public comment period will remain open through October 4, 2023. Other ways to comment: Attend the Planning Commission briefing and public hearing on October 4 (in person or via Zoom) or send public comment to [email protected], or via mail:
