The Renton Police Department is working with the Renton School District to teach students about the Police Department and the requirements to become a law enforcement officer.

The Renton Police Teen Academy is a free one week academy offered July 6 to 10, 2020. Students will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. daily at Renton High school (400 S 2nd St.).

There will be some offsite instruction or field trips to other locations. In these instances transportation will be provided by the Renton School District via a school bus.

This academy class meets the community service hours required for graduation by the Renton School District.

  • 1 hour of class = 1 hour of community service, for a potential 20 hours total

Application Process

Applications are currently being accepted for the 2018 summer academy class.

Minimum requirements include:

  • You must be at least 16 years old and still enrolled in school or just graduated in 2018.
  • Signed Parent permission forms including medical waivers must be completed.
  • Criminal history check as well as a department of license check.
  • Willing to commit to the entire week – 20 hours.
  • Signed Photo waiver
  • Signed rules of conduct/dress code

Please fill out applications and all associated forms and return to the School Resource Officer at your school by June 1, 2018.

Space is limited. Renton School District students have priority.
