Pond Maintenance Protects The Environment
Stormwater ponds are important facilities that protect streams and rivers by improving water quality and by buffering high runoff flows. Ponds prevent sedimentation and erosion of natural streams and creeks, and prevent flooding in the streets, if they are maintained.
Homeowners Association Maintenance Responsibility
Unless the stormwater pond maintenance was transferred to the City of Renton, the homeowners association is responsible for the maintenance on all ponds, bio-swales, pipes and ditches that are not in the City's right-of-way.
Appendix A-Maintenance Requirements for Flow Control, Conveyance, and Water Quality Facilities contains maintenance requirements. See sections one through four and section 13.
Transfer Stormwater Management Facility to the City
The City of Renton is offering to assume maintenance responsibility for stormwater management facilities in single-family residential plats with public streets. To be eligible for transfer, the stormwater facilities must meet the city’s maintenance standards. Call for information.
