The Surface Water Maintenance Section is responsible for protecting the environment of our rivers, lakes and streams, as well as preventing flooding within city rights-of-way and private property.
This 10-person division responds to flooding incidents and conducts preventative maintenance and repairs to:
- 3 storm water pump stations
- 278 miles of storm pipe
- 16,353 catch basins
- 355 flow control and water quality facilities
The section also has an aggressive Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) program. This video equipment allows city systems to be inspected underground and assists in mapping, identifying needed repairs and evaluating system conditions to prioritize replacement. This tool is also very useful in locating and identifying illegal connections to city systems. Current priority inspections are mapping and inventory, or requests from Utility Engineering.
Residents and businesses can request maintenance services via Renton Responds or by calling 425-430-7400. For urgent calls after 3:30 p.m. or on weekends, contact the Renton Police Department's non-emergency number: 425-430-7500, option #8.
