The Community Police Academy is a 10-week program designed to educate participants on the “hows” and “whys” of our operations and services. Our academy offers front-line and behind-the-scenes information on law enforcement through interactive presentations and tours.

2020 Spring Academy

The next 10-week Community Police Academy starts Tuesday, April 14 and goes through Tuesday, June 16.  The academy meets once a week, on Tuesday evenings from 6 – 8:30 PM. Applications are currently being accepted.

Academy Goals

  • Provide the community information to gain knowledge of police operations, units, division, procedures, and protocol.

  • Develop a partnership between the community and police in order to establish a safer community.

  • Motivate the community to proactively help prevent crime to help strengthen police and community relationships.

Application Process

To participate you must be willing to commit to attend at least 8 of the 10 sessions. Priority is given to those who live or work in Renton city limits.

Only those applicants who have successfully registered, passed a background check, and received confirmation of acceptance will be permitted to attend this academy.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 18 years

  • Ability to pass a background check

  • No prior felony convictions

  • Must attend at least 8 of the 10 classes

  • Attendees who miss more than two classes will be asked to reapply to a later session
