This Week in Renton header graphic. Supporting Small Businesses during Small Business Saturday.

Established in 2010, Small Business Saturday has become a significant movement in the United States. It emphasizes the important role that small businesses play in our economy. This annual event, on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, reminds people to support local businesses during the holiday season and year-round.

Since the start of Small Business Saturday, Americans have spent over $200 billion with small businesses. This support has boosted local economies and provided small businesses a way to reach new customers and engage with existing ones.

The city and Visit Renton will highlight several local businesses to celebrate Renton's small businesses. This year's highlights include Viet-Wah Asian Food Market, Anchovies and Salt, Saimin Says, Seattle Gummy Company, Tomato Tomato Creative Space, Mexicuban, Children's Business Fair, Filling Station Coffee & Wine Bistro, and Vince's Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria.

Catch last year's Small Business Saturday highlights in Renton on the city's YouTube page.

Want to join the celebration and contribute to Renton's economy? The Renton Farmers Market and Renton Municipal Arts Commission (RMAC) are hosting several opportunities to shop small on Saturday, November 30. First, shop farm fresh produce and handmade gifts during the Renton Holiday Farmers Market at Piazza Park from 12 to 4 p.m.

Continue with free activities hosted by RMAC at Renton Pavilion Events Center from 12 to 5 p.m. before the downtown tree is lit and Santa arrives.

Just want to shop? Many small businesses throughout the downtown core will offer special discounts and deals.

Small Business Saturday serves as a powerful reminder of local support's impact on small businesses. We hope to see you out supporting your favorite small business or discovering a new one.

Navigating the aftermath of Washington’s ‘bomb cyclone’

Last week, Renton was one of many cities affected by the significant windstorm in the state.

City of Renton Public Works Department, Renton Parks and Recreation, and Renton Police Department have worked nonstop to clear roads and restore traffic flow, while PSE and additional support crews have been working to restore Renton's power as quickly as possible.

Storm clean-up and recovery efforts are still in place, and the city has compiled a central source for resources at Your Voice Renton, our civic engagement site. Here, residents can find answers quickly about food resources, property damage filing, leave feedback, and connect with the agencies or city staff that can assist.

Many thanks to the city departments, local agencies, and community for coming together in support of one another.

Pet Adoption Event on Saturday, December 14 from 1-4 pm at Eastside Veterinary Associates

Renton Animal Care & Control pet adoption event

Renton Animal Control is vital to caring for and supporting our community's missing animals. The challenge of high numbers of animals in shelters waiting for homes is a regional issue that demands our attention and action.

Join Renton Police Department's Animal Control as they partner with Eastside Veterinary Associates to host a special pet adoption event. Visit Eastside Veterinary Associates on Saturday, December 14, from 1 to 4 p.m.

All pets available for adoption are vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and microchipped. Adoption fees will be 50% off ($50 for dogs and $25 for cats).

Renton Animal Control has 16 dogs awaiting adoption at the upcoming event. The number of animals changes daily, so the number of available pets may change before the event.

Renton's Animal Control officers focus on reuniting lost animals. Their commitment goes beyond returning these animals home; they also respond to calls about animal welfare, educate the community on wildlife alternatives, and assist sick or injured animals.

Consider supporting animal adoption and open your hearts and homes to these deserving animals. Explore the pets available for adoption on the event's website. We look forward to seeing you there!

Battle of the Badges graphic for the holiday lights event on Saturday, December 14. Hosted by Renton police Department.

Battle of the Badges returns with a new location and walk-through event

Join the Renton Police Department and over 30 agencies for the annual Battle of the Badges. This free event is on December 14, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Surround yourself in the holiday spirit as public safety personnel from around the region transform their vehicles into festive displays.

For the past three years, Battle of the Badges has provided residents with a fun and engaging way to get into the holiday spirit while connecting with public safety personnel around the region.

With the continued growth and interest, this year's event will be at Renton Technical College (3000 NE Fourth St.) and is now a walk-through event. After you've walked through, cast your vote for your favorite display.

Enjoy food trucks and consider bringing non-perishable food for donation to local food banks. Learn more at rentonwa.gov/battle.
