The federal government has authority to control aircraft noise by regulation of:

  • Source emissions
  • Flight procedures
  • Air traffic management

The Airport Sponsor (Renton) is primarily responsible for developing and implementing plans designed to reduce noise effects

  • Capital Improvement/improvements in airport design
  • Land Acquisition, planning & municipal zoning
  • Establish Ground Procedures
  • Provide noise information for decision-making to FAA & advertise published procedures to the flying community

What Renton does with noise complaints:

  1. Complaints are logged in database for historical record

  2. Airport staff attempt to track aircraft using a number of methods based on information provided. If the aircraft is based at Renton Airport, then an attempt is made to contact the pilot and remind them of the published voluntary noise abatement procedures

  3. Publishes procedures and best practices on the website and in flight publications

  4. Airport Operations staff visits neighborhoods routinely to assess noise issues

  5. Airport staff work with federal agencies to determine lowest impact, yet safest, route for air traffic; and work with agencies on capital projects to mitigate noise that exceed noise contours

  6. Airport staff attempt to contact real estate agents and encourage them to disclose the close proximity of the Airport to potential home buyers

  7. If known, Airport staff provide updates on scheduled activities that may generate additional noise (such as law enforcement exercises) via Facebook, Nextdoor and Twitter
