The seasons are changing, and the heavy rain and snow season is ahead. For 2024-2025, the Pacific Northwest is expecting a La Niña year, meaning in the next six months (October through March) Renton will see a wetter and colder winter.
Last month, the Public Works Department began its month-long preparation for the cold weather ahead which included testing all equipment and vehicles, checking supplies, and doing dry runs of their snow routes.
A few reminders in extreme weather conditions from snow, ice, wind, and flooding:
- When snow is forecasted, crews have three anti-icer applicator trucks that they apply to the first and secondary arterials to make it easier to plow.
- Snowplows prioritize arterials, secondary arterials and collectors, bridges, schools, hospitals, and fire stations. Neighborhoods will be plowed once all snow and ice are clear from main arterials and critical routes.
- Facilities managed by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department operate on the same snow schedules as the Renton School District incase of delays or closures. Affected facilities include Renton Community Center, Don Persson Renton Senior Activity Center, and Highlands Neighborhood Center.
- Clearing leaves and debris from storm drains minimizes flooding during heavy rains. Check and clear neighborhood storm drains or those in front of businesses.
- Clearing snow and ice from sidewalks in front of homes or
businesses when winter hits is a resident duty.
- Do not approach any downed wires; call 9-1-1.
- If your vehicle is stuck in the snow, call a local tow company for help.
- Do not abandon vehicles as they will be towed to allow snowplows to get by. If you return to your abandoned vehicle that has been towed, call any of the local tow companies with your plate number. You can also call the Renton non-emergency number at 425-235-2121 for assistance finding your car.
- If you are in immediate danger, call 9-1-1.

Permitting site update
New changes for existing customer accessing the city's permitting and licensing software
STARTING IN MID NOVEMBER, the website used for permitting and licensing for the City of Renton, Civic Access, is upgrading. Existing customers will need to set up a new account with login access. This update is all about making things easier for users and improving the overall experience.
With this update, users can login once to handle multiple tasks like applying for permits and paying invoices from different jurisdictions, whether accessing the website as an individual or through the business.
Here’s how to access the website after mid November:
- Visit permitting.rentonwa.gov, and for existing users only, click on the login option in the top-right corner or homepage tile.
- A pop-up will ask the account contact to register using the same email address that was used to access the website previously.
- From there, follow the steps to reset the account with the upgraded system. This includes updates to the account password, username, and other account information as needed.
Please remember to register with one company login if doing it on behalf of a business. This will allow the company’s business licenses to be registered under one user. Individuals of the company can create their own logins in addition to the company login.
The new Civic Access system has been updated to incorporate the latest “Tyler Identity” (TID) technology. With this updated technology, users can use the same login credentials (username and password) across different jurisdictions.
The changes to the Civic Access software will enhance efficiency and convenience for permit and licensing processes. For more information or assistance during this transition visit rentonwa.gov/permitservices.
