The City of Renton is updating a plan for how they identify, prioritize and remove barriers, specifically for those with disabilities.
We need your help to identify where those barriers exist. This plan, known as an ADA Transition Plan, provides an opportunity for Renton to review its programs, activities, and services to identify barriers and changes that are needed for individuals with disabilities to fully participate in civic life. It will be used to update the city’s existing ADA Transition Plan guiding planning and implementation of necessary accessibility improvements.
This plan is guided by Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, which prohibits all state and local governments from discriminating on the basis of disability. Specifically, this effort is focused on pedestrian facilities in public Rights-of-Way including curb ramps, crosswalks, and sidewalks.
The first step of this update is a self-evaluation phase and relies on broad feedback from the public. While the plan will benefit greatly from feedback from those with disabilities or that provide support for those with disabilities, feedback is welcome from everyone in Renton. After a technical evaluation and rating process, we will seek public feedback on priorities and eventually on the draft plan.
