The Information Technology (IT) Division is the city's central technology provider with two primary responsibilities:
- To provide information technology services and support required by the city departments. These services include telecommunication systems, data center, network services, application support; implementation, maintenance and development, Geographic Information Services, end user, PC, and peripheral support.
- To provide the vision and skills that will enable the city of Renton to use technological innovation to improve customer service to the community. By using information technology to convert raw data into useful information easily accessible to all, the city can transform the relationship between government and the community. Ultimately, more citizens will be better able to participate in government and make more informed decisions based upon the information provided to them using current technology.
Information Technology is a service fund and the IT Division is ever mindful of the stewardship of taxpayers' dollars. Technology for its own sake can be a waste of community resources so while the department leads the city in its search for effective products and services, the end result must lead to improved public service.
