There is a strong demand for more non-motorized transportation (bicycle and pedestrian) facilities in Renton. This program would complete an integrated system of bicycle routes and trails and would upgrade streets to better accommodate bicycle travel. Some existing and potential routes have site-specific safety problems, which would be addressed in this program.

Th Bicycle Route Development Program develops the city's non-motorized facilities in partnership and cooperation with other city departments.

Improvements include:

  • Signing bicycle routes along preferred corridors
  • Construction of missing links in the bicycle route system
  • Other site-specific improvements

This program will upgrade routes as needed to safely accommodate bicycle traffic and publicize the Renton bicycle network. When applicable, this program offers funding to match grant requests for bicycle route planning and construction improvements.

Schedule

Trails and Bicycle Master Plan was adopted in May 2009. A Renton Trails and Bikeways Guide Map was also created in 2009 for distribution to the community. Installation of bicycle route signing and pavement markings will occur in 2012.

Budget

$450,000 programmed through 2017. $160,000 is unfunded.
