The traffic safety program provides for special small-scale traffic safety improvements that are identified and require materials, labor or equipment beyond the normal scope of city operations and maintenance crews. This program includes providing materials for railroad crossing upgrades and converting school zone signs to electronic operation.
Historically, a number of smaller traffic improvements are required throughout the year. Projects are typically identified through citizens' concerns, analysis of accident records or observation by traffic operations or maintenance personnel, and then prioritized.
