Bordering the South Renton Neighborhood, the South 7th Street corridor is a heavily-travelled east-west connector between Talbot Road South (SR 515) and Rainier Avenue South (SR 167). Increasing traffic from I-405/Talbot Road South interchange ramps will require improvements to South 7th Street to handle the volumes. This segment is also designated as a bicycle route through the city's commercial core and an important link between regional trails. The South Renton Study identified South 7th Street as needing streetscape improvements.

This project will conduct a preliminary/planning study to evaluate widening the existing roadway to three or five lanes and the feasibility of a separated bicycle/pedestrian trail. The study will identify right-of-way needs, project costs, and finalize the scope of the improvements. When constructed, this project will likely include new curb, gutter, sidewalk, roadway, lighting, traffic signals and signal modification, channelization, drainage improvements and landscaping and street trees.

Project Schedule

Planning is anticipated to begin in 2012. The schedule (and budget) for this project will be determined after the completion of the WSDOT I-405/Talbot Road Interchange ramps. Engineering anticipated to begin by 2013.

Project Budget

$4.5 million is programmed.

The City of Renton hereby gives public notice that it is the City's policy to assure full compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Civil Rights Restoration Act of 1987, and related statutes and regulations in all programs and activities. Title VI requires that no person shall, on the grounds of race, color, sex, or national origin be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be otherwise subjected to discrimination under any Federal Aid Highway program or other activity for which the City of Renton receives Federal financial assistance.

Any person who believes they have been aggrieved by an unlawful discriminatory practice under Title VI has a right to file a formal complaint with the City of Renton. Any such complaint must be in writing and filed with the City of Renton Human Resources within one hundred, eighty (180) days following the date of the alleged discriminatory occurrence.
